Purpose, expanded

The Workshop is a place for the public to view my work-in-progress projects. Rough, unfinished, and sometimes not even useful, these projects often start with the words “What happens when I…” or “Is it possible to…”.

The workshop serves to:

  • Provide an avenue to get feedback and input from the public on why something is behaving the way it is, or how something could be done better
  • Hold me accountable
  • Develop my ability to understand, explain, and write about my work
  • Help to spread information and inspire others
  • Give me a self-reference

Feedback

It’s listed first for a reason. I’d love thoughts, critiques, or comments on any of the work in here. Head over to my contact page or leave a comment!

Accountability

Even if nobody ends up reading some of these pages, the fact that they *could* means I have to carefully research, understand, organize, and write about these topics or risk losing face. A great way of holding oneself accountable is allowing yourself to be seen.

Communication Skills

In America, we were constantly educated on how to write, persuade, present, speak; we could all still improve. The best way to improve is by doing.

Too often, I jump headlong into a project and find myself 20 layers deep in a maze that only I understand. There is value in being able to precisely explain and document the steps in a project, especially when it comes to group efforts. This is my practice.

Sharing Information

It is only through people’s concerted efforts to not only synthesize new information, but transform it into a form that can be shared with others that we have made so much progress. Learning what has already been discovered is key to everyone attempting to push farther, and we all must do what we can to both spread what we’ve discovered and inspire others to push further.

Self-reference

My memory isn’t perfect, and it’s useful to have documentation of what I did previously so that I can reference it. Two birds, one stone?
